Explore central Wellington I Te Whanganui-a-Tara. This walking tour is your opportunity to see how our capital city is evolving and enjoy the historical landmarks from the past.

The walking tour begins at Hikitia, a working self-propelled floating steam crane. Located on Wellington’s waterfront, she is thought to be the only working steam crane of her type in the world. As delegates make their way from the waterfront, along Lampton Quay and up to the parliamentary precinct they will see:

  • The architecturally award winning Wharewaka building;

  • Wellington Writers Walk installations and significant public art works;

  • Wander through parliament grounds and enjoy a discussion about our renowned suffragette Kate Sheppard;

  • Plimmer steps and cable car lane;

  • Old parliament building, the National Library and more.

The day tour will end with a stroll down Mulgrave St to complete the tour at one of New Zealand’s oldest public houses, the Thistle Inn.
