Christchurch’s drinking water is sourced from aquifers deep below the city which is recharged through infiltration from the Waimakariri river upstream of the city. This source of water has long been regarded as a safe and reliable source of drinking water, seldom requiring treatment. In this bus trip we will journey from the river to the well - examining how the Waimakariri River is the source of the city’s water, what land use restrictions and plan protections are in place, visit some sites with historical legacy compliance issues, and discuss modern issues arising under the guise of water security and water bottling. This trip will be delivered by Leo Fietje – Principal Planning Advisor at ECan.
Coach departs at 10am and will return back at around 1pm, lunch will be provided.
PPE requirements to be advised.
