Peter is a Senior Compliance Officer with the Canterbury Regional Council. Having been in this position for 3 years, Peter has focussed on water use compliance monitoring and enforcement including: process development and training for water use monitoring and leading change in the way Environment Canterbury monitors the vast majority of New Zealand’s consented water. Prior to this position, Peter was a student at the University of Canterbury studying towards a Masters of Water Resource Management. This degree included a ‘compliance’ case study and thesis on historical land use and contamination in Antarctica, the chemistry of contaminant transport in permafrost soil and freshwater, and the implications to New Zealand under the Antarctic Treaty System. Recent cases Peter has worked on include a prosecution for the unauthorised clearance and development of a riverbed, and a declaration on what constitutes giving effect to a consent.
