Improving compliance and reducing risk

Trustpower Ltd owns and operates 38 hydropower stations across 19 hydroelectric power schemes in both the North and South Island. This diverse portfolio means we hold resource consents across nine regional councils and numerous approvals with Department of Conservation and the Ministry for Primary Industries. As of June 2019 Trustpower had 429 resource consents with a total of approx. 4,500 conditions.

Trustpower is responsible for scheduled and continuously monitored consent conditions at our schemes - which were previously managed by a bespoke compliance management system and a series of excel spreadsheets. An internal audit identified that this approach provided an unacceptable level of risk to the business due to the age of the system and internal capability to maintain it.

This presentation will outline how Trustpower is using Maximo (an asset management system) to manage and improve compliance with our scheduled compliance conditions. Discussion will explore how the system has allowed key risk areas to be mitigated; where this has translated into environmental performance and other unexpected efficiencies discovered along the way.
